Snowman Riceball

We had snowstorm in last weekend and all New York City public schools were closed. My son’s preschool closed and I was able to work from home and spend extra time with him beside weekend!!
I took him in our backyard to play with snow for a little while first in the morning. I am glad he was so happy to see the first snow and enjoyed with it!!
I wish I could keep him longer, but we stayed short time since it was really freezing.

After playing outside, we enjoyed indoor activities such as snowman craft, playing train, play dough, watching TV, and playing game together.

For dinner, I made his favorite Onigiri (rice ball) with Hayashi rice.

Here is the how to make this easy snowman rice ball below.

How to make Snowman onigiri (rice ball)

Cuisine: Japanese
 
Ingredients
  • 1 bowl Plain cooked rice
  • Water
  • Toasted Sesame oil
  • Salt
[Fillings]
  • ¼ cup katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes)
  • ¼ tsp soy sauce
  • ¼ tsp maple syrup
  • ¼ or less toasted sesame oil
[Decoration]
  • Nori seaweed
  • Cooked Carrot
Instructions
  1. Mix all [Fillings] ingredients.
  2. Prepare cooked rice, water, toasted sesame oil, salt, Katsuobushi filling in a small bowls as picture shown below
  3. Spread a warm rice into one hand. Place Katsuobushi filling in the middle. Fold up the rice around the filling. Pack the rice tightly with both hands.
  4. If it is too hard making rice with hand, you can place plastic on the small cup and place rice and filling in the middle.
  5. Make two rice ball. Make the body part a bit bigger than the head to make stable.
  6. Prepare the parts: Cut Carrot as picture shown. They will be used for hat, scarf. You can also make little triangle for nose.
  7. Use Noripanch or scissor abd cut eyes and mouth for snowman.
  8. Place bigger rice ball on the bottom of the plate, and add carrot, nori for your rice ball.
