Halloween Doria (Rice Gratin)

With Halloween is around the corner, we enjoyed pumpkin decoration with my 3 year old son.
He asked me this Doria dish (Doria is Rice gratin) , I cooked with Halloween decoration.
He named  this dish “Rice pizza”!! When he want this dish, he says “mommy, I want rice pizza tonight!”

Here is recipe.
I added meat sauce recipe but you can use your favorite tomato sauce or meat sauce for it!!

This rice grating is also gluten free!!

Halloween meat doria (rice gratin)
Meat sauce
  • ½ lb Ground chicken (pork)
  • 1 onion
  • ½ carrot minced
  • 1 cup vegetables (cerely, bell pepper, mushroom, small) diced or minced
  • 1 clove Garlic minced
  • 1 (14.5 oz) diced tomato can
  • 1 Tablespoon Maple syrup
  • 1-2 Tablespoon Red Miso (white miso will be Ok to use)
  • 1 cup vegetable broth or chicken broth
  • 3 Tbsp. Ketchup
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (option)
  • salt pepper

Doria (rice gratin)
  • shredded cheddar cheese
  • Rice
  • panko

  • Nori
  • edamame
  • cooked broccoli

  1. In a large skillet, heat oil on medium high and saute garlic, onion and then add all other vegetables.
  2. Add ground chicken, salt and pepper and continue to saute until meat is cooked.
  3. Add tomatoes, maple syrup, vegetable broth.
  4. Add ketchup and sauce, red miso, Worcestershire sauce (option) and bring it to a boil.
  5. Reduce heat to low and simmer until most liquid is evaporated.

  1. place rice in oval shaped baking dish
  2. Pour the meat sauce over the rice and sprinkle cheese and panko (option).
  3. bake them until the cheese is nicely melted.

  1. Arrange edamame in a circle around edge of doria.
  2. Curt nori for eyes and mouth and place them
  3. place broccoli for stem
