I bought very fresh and delicious looking ground pork in butcher shop and I cooked Chinese steamed pearl balls (steamed pork meatballs and glutinous rice). It taste like siu mai (pork dumpling) but coated by sweet rice.
it is very easy to cook but looks gorgeous and delicious!!
It will serve with vinegary soy say dipping sauce, but when you server toddler, sauce is not necessary.

Chinese steamed pearl balls (steamed pork meatballs and glutinous rice )

  • 1 cup sweet rice (glutinous rice)
[meat ball]
  • 1 lb ground pork (you can use your favorite meat)
  • 1 onion minced
  • 2 shitake mushroom minced
  • 2 Tablespoon corn start (option)
  • ½ carrot minced
  • 1 Tablespoon rice wine (
  • 2 Tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon brown rice syrup or sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1-2 teaspoon gochujang (or white miso)
  • 1 teaspoon minced fresh ginger
  • pinch white pepper

  • 2 sheet cabbage thinly slice
  • broccoli
  • carrot
  • sale

  • 2 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon toastes sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar mirin
Soak the glutinous rice in water for over night (at least 5-6 hours) overnight) and drain well in a colander.
  1. Spread out the rice on a plate
  2. In a bowl, mix all meatball ingredients.
  3. Take about 1 tablespoon of the ground pork mixture and form into a ball
  4. Spread sliced cabbage on the bamboo steamer or heatproof plate
  5. Roll lightly over the sweet rice, and place on the plate.
  6. Add broccoli and carrot in empty space and sprinkle pinch salt.
  7. Steam them about 15 minutes.
