I was watching Korean drama “Jewel in the Palace (Daejanggeum)” and I saw heroine Jang-geum and kitchen court ladies were cooking royal cuisine.  I wanted to cook one of their dish -special shrimp skewers with vegetables, one day and  bring this for company potluck party in few years ago. Since I have never have chance to post recipe and now I would like to share it with you.

This appetizer is time consuming cooking but it is great for appetizer.


Colorful korean skewers
  • Beef ½ lb
Sauce A
  • 1 Tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon Mirin
  • 1 Tablespoon Gochujang
  • 2 teaspoon sesame seed ground
  • 1 garlic grated
  • 1 Tablespoon scallion minced
  • pepper
Skewer Option
  • Vegetables
  • Cucumber
  • Daikon
  • Carrot
  • dried shiitake mushroom
  • Eggs
Dipping Sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon Mirin
  • 1 Tablespoon Gochujang
  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame crushed.
  • pepper, garlic powder
  • ginkgo nut (for garnish)
  1. Cut beef into into strips ⅓ inch wide and marinade with Sauce A. (save 20% of sauce for shiitake masuroom).
  2. Soften dried shiitake mushrooms by soaking them, cut them into same size as beef and marinade with sauce A.
  3. Saute, beef and dried shiitake mushroom.
  4. Cut Daikon and Carrot into strips ⅓ inch wide and blanch them.
  5. Cut cucumber same size as other vegetable and sprinkle salt on.
  6. Marinade all cut veggies with salt, pepper, toasted sesame oil. Saute them separately.
  7. add pinch salt into egg and cook Egg white and york separately. (you can omit this step if you do not want egg. or you can use yellow pepper instead.)
  8. Mix all Dipping Sauce ingredients.
  9. Thread Add all ingredients onto bamboo skewers and serve with sauce.
