My Son loves eating generally but he recently became picky eater.
I remember I was picky eater and my mom used cook pretty bento (lunch) for school. So I cooked penguin shaped rice ball for him.
Guess what? He gave me big smile and eat them all…I am so happy he finished his lunch without mess…

Lunch Box
  • 120g cooked Rice for rice ball
  • 1 Tablespoon furikake (Mitoku Nori Miso Sprinkle) : you can use anything cooked fish, veggie, meat etc
  • ½ Teaspoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1 pkg gim (Korean Roasted Seaweed Laver Snack)
For Penguin face
  • 2 slice steam carrot
  • 1 slioce white american slice cheese
  • 1 angel hair pasta
  • ¼ nori sheet for eye
tool I use
  • Nori punch
  • cookie cutter (option)
  1. mix rice, furikake toasted sesame oil
  2. make 2 rice ball with plastic wrap.
  3. tear gim (Korean laver) into bite-sized pieces, so my toddler son cannot rip off this part!! and wrap rice ball with them.
  4. wrap with plastic and leave them for a while
  5. Cut slice cheese into 1 big round shape and cut it half for tummy.
    Cut 4 small round shape for eyes.
    cut carrot into 3 elliptic shape for nose and feet.
  6. use nori punch for eyes.
  7. place all parts with tweezers to avoid hand germ.
  8. skewer with a bit of uncooked spaghetti (angel hair pasta) for feet, nose instead of a toothpick. it will become soft until lunch time with moisture from rice.
